Najafgarh: Doctor's death in a hit and run: Medical student held

The Delhi Police arrested a 21-year-old medical student from Haryana; nearly 10 days after a senior resident doctor and an OT technician were killed in a road accident in Najafgarh.

On February 20, Dr Rajiv Ranjan (41), a senior resident doctor at a government hospital, and Manish Kumar (39) were on their bike when the Mahindra KUV car hit them. Mayank, a second-year student from the Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar was driving the car belonging to his father at the time of the incident.

During the initial investigation, police were unable to identify the offending vehicle from the CCTV footage, later were able to map the CCTVs and identify the car number. The car was found to be registered under the name of a firm. The director of the firm said the car was being used by his employee Surender. Surender tried to mislead the police but finally revealed that his son Mayank was driving the car.

Police arrested Mayank from his residence and seized the car and were interrogating him.

Dr Rashmi, wife of Dr Ranjan told that was her husband was actively involved in treating patients during the pandemic and many patients were asking about him after he died in the accident.

Kumar’s brother Harish said his brother was a contractual employee and the only earning member of the family, so he demanded justice and compensation for his wife and children.
